GLOCK announced that the Portuguese Army has officially selected the Glock 17 Gen5 pistol as its new service weapon, following a public tender promoted by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) held in July 2019. The decision came after a competitive process involving several international manufacturers.
The version chosen by the Portuguese military is the G17 Gen5 in “coyote” color, a customized variant that is not currently available on the commercial market. This pistol stands out for incorporating state-of-the-art features, such as the Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB), which provides greater accuracy, an optimized trigger system, Glock night sights, front serrations and a safety catch. The configuration also includes ambidextrous slide control and a reversible magazine catch, ensuring versatility for right- and left-handed operators.
We are proud to have been selected to support the Portuguese military’s missions with the latest generation of Glock pistols. The Portuguese Army now joins a broad range of military and security forces supported by Glock around the world” said Richard Flür , Director de Vendas Internacionais da GLOCK GmbH
In Portugal, Glock’s participation in the competition was supported by Sodarca Defense, the brand’s official distributor.
This competition has been anticipated for several years and has finally been successfully concluded, with the best possible solution for the needs of our Armed Forces” referiu João Bravo, CEO da Sodarca Defense
Despite strong demand, Glock has indicated that, for the time being, there are no plans to commercially make the “coyote” version of the G17 Gen5 available – although the possibility is not completely ruled out.
